Mandarin garnet, a pure manganese spessartine is one of the most recent discoveries of new gems. It was discovered in the beginning of the 1990Õs in the northern Namibian desert. Introduced worldwide by Colgem, it immediately has become a great success in all the worldÕs markets. ItÕs great feature is the unusually bright orange hue which together with the high R.I of 1.81 offers a true ÒfireÓ to a stone with good hardness and clarity.
Today this gem has a very stable place in the market.
At Colgem, Mandarin garnet continues to add fire to the stock. We continue to be one of the few sources where one can get the original Namibian stones. Lately there were discoveries of Mandarin garnet in Nigeria and Madagascar and we added items from these sources to our selection.
